The College’s establishment history is stated as follows:

In 1963, Ato Mulatu Abebe, driven by a profound desire to educate the children in his community, took a remarkable step by gathering them and founding a public school. This initiative marked the beginning of a commitment to education in the area. By 1967, the school faced a significant challenge: a shortage of space. To address this, 2,500 square meters were approved for expansion, allowing the school to accommodate more students and enhance its facilities. The year 1969 was a pivotal moment as the school conducted the 6th-grade national examination for the first time. This milestone not only demonstrated the school’s growth but also its commitment to meeting national educational standards. In 1978, a decision was made to elevate the school to a secondary education institution. Building work commenced on what would become Keftegna 20 Secondary School, marking a new chapter in its educational offerings. By 1983, the school officially began teaching at the secondary level, welcoming 606 9th-grade students. This transition represented the school’s dedication to providing comprehensive education and preparing students for future challenges.

Changing Educational Policy: In response to the growing need for skilled manpower to support rapid economic development in our country, the institution transitioned to focus on vocational training. Rebranding and Recognition: As per the Addis Ababa City Administration Technical and Vocational Education and Training Bureau's proclamation, the institution was officially renamed Gofa Industrial College on December 1, 2009 E.C.

Currently, the college provides educational training services from one main campus and two branches, managed by one dean, five vice deans, five directorates, eight team leaders, twelve academic department heads, and 205 trainers, total 332 staff members. It offers regular training in twelve professions and short-term courses in various fields, with a capacity of over 20,000 trainees for short-term programs and more than 812 for regular courses (both day and night).
